photo Panoramas layout and Ideas? (3 posts)

I am new to wordpress and am loving the experience of getting it all together and uploading tons of previously unpublished content.

I have searched the forums for previous comments on panoramas and come up short so I think these questions should be valid and hopefully serve as a start for ideas about a largely evolving area of Photography

I have several Panorama files currently in QTVR which I want to display in my blog. Firstly embedded into a post which seems simple enough even without plugins and secondly in a separate dedicated page However I would like to create small images which represent each panorama, that begin to scroll when the mouse hovers over them. When a user then clicks on the image I would like it to open on a page instead of a post so that I can make the panorama span the full screen and provide a really immersive feeling.

    Example of scrolling mini pic:
    http://lisbona.arounder.com/city_tour/
When you click on a map point a box pops up with an image that responds to a mouse over. What I need is the image without the map!

    Example of immersive Panorama:

So my questions/discussion points are as follows:
1 - How can I make small mouse activated scrolling pictures from a large panorama source image? (Large rectangular jpeg)

2 - What in your opinions is the best way to display a large panorama embedded in a wordpress page? (to the edges of the theme box side bars removed, so not quite full screen width the image should remain 'within' my theme)

3 any other ideas on ways to present panoramas with class inside a blog? There are many Panorama sites popping up and some awesome photography beginning to appear so it would be good for WordPress to incorporate it.

For reference my blog is at:

    Cheers!

    Hi Malcoski,

About to embed a panorama in QTVR format in a WordPress page, I made this plugin few time ago, maybe this could be useful to you http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/qtvr-viewer/

i use wordpress to display 360° flash panoramas on my site here -

    http://www.samrohn.com/

i use flash panorama player, but you might have an easier time of it using stand alone swf panos generated with Pano2VR, FPP is a bit more complicated, pano2vr converts qtvr movs to swf very easily

to embed a stand alone swf (or qtvr) pano, just upload via the add media button in the posting window, also upload a preview jpg, insert the jpg & link it to the pano swf, you may also use some sort of lightbox plugin here, look for one that supports swf & mov, not just images

if you are using wordpress 2.9 (and your theme is upgraded for 2.9 thumbnails, this jpg image can be used for thumbnails in archive pages, recent post lists, etc

qtvr .mov panoramas are essentially a dead format btw, not supported by apple in the latest snow leopard 10.6 quicktime X, flash is the way to go

for the type of scrolling mini pic thing you describe, look at the smooth slider plugin

    have fun :)

    sam
