Personalized events and files (3 posts)

I have a client with an existing WordPress site asking for the ability to assign *personalized* files and calendar items to users. In other words, joe would log in and be able to see a list of files and calendar events that are just for joe, and mary would see a list of files and calendar events that are just for mary.

To me, this seems like a request that is stepping outside the reach of the capabilities of WordPress or any plugin I've ever seen, but wanted to ask the experts here before telling them this is a job for Django or another framework.

How would you go about solving this? Could you do it in WordPress?

    Thanks,
    Scot

WordPress can fully do this with a custom plugin. You already have all the user management options WP provides out-of-the-box. Then you add the files and events management with a custom plugin. Even more, you can have different files and events for each role in your site, extending the "for each user" idea for a more general one. Give it a thought. Regards.

Riledel - I know there are a number of events and file sharing plugins for WP, but I haven't seen one that will present unique views of these things to individual users (for example, you'd need to be able to select a target user during file upload and that info would need to be stored in the db; same for events). If you have a specific plugin in mind, please illuminate!

    Thanks,
    Scot
