• On my new server, every time I update a blog I have to mess with permissions to get the pages and categories to show up.

Can someone tell me exactly which files to change permissions on and what they should be?

Right now it looks like all folders are 755 and most files are 644.

Which ones are stopping my pages and categories from showing?

that’s the norm for most linux servers

Ok I did a little searching on the web and it seems if you organize your uploads by year and month etc, you have to let the software recreate the uploads folder FIRST and then you can put back the files.

Worked like a charm. Except now the image uploader won’t work. 🙁 GEESH!

Thankfully she only had ONE post with a graphic, and it’s a flyer for an event gone by and not even needed so I could have just deleted it but it was good for me to play around to test my theory…

Now, about that other post of mine you answered re: DB Username PW question — do you know the answer? I can’t use this particular site to experiment with — it’s too important.

If I delete the user that is in the config file, created a new user, add to DB w/perms, and then of course with a new PW, then just adjust the config and re-upload, I should be OK right? The purpose of the DB Username/password is to allow the software to connect with the DB?

    sorry I wasn’t clear
yes – you are exactly correct – that will work like a charm

OK maybe my theme is too old to work with 2.9.2 and I should ask her to let me use a new theme… NONE of the uploaders work.

I don’t usually use those, I use an image folder with a direct URL link because when there is trouble it’s a lot easier knowing the images will all be restored automatically because they reside OUTSIDE the blog, but for the masses they need theuploader… <sigh>

    🙂

    Thank you dear.
