permissions on folders questions (2 posts)

    when you setup a new blog i forget now what folders and files do you have to set permissions on to make sure things can be access, written too, uploads work etc?

    Generally all directories should be 755 and all files should be 644 with the exception of wp-content and some it's sub-directories (wp-content/uploads comes to mind). 777 is effectively wide open.

    If you want to be really security conscious you could make wp-content 755, see what breaks, and then grant less restrictions as necessary...

    YMMV depending on your host. Different hosts will attach different credentials to files created by scripts.
