Permissions for contributor role are ignored (3 posts)

I'm trying to restrict certain areas of my site to the public, or the Subscriber role. However volunteers need to access a volunteer area of the site, once again not visible to the public. Volunteers have logins with contributor roles.

My problem is at one point I had this working, but now anyone with a role lower than Editor cannot access content hidden from public, yet volunteers (Contributors) can't access the page either.

I've somewhat narrowed this down to page restriction to the Volunteer page.. unrestricting Page reader (Aka subscriber/public) allows a volunteer login access to the page.
Whatever happened to contributor role outdoing the reader role, not the other way around!

I'm getting frustrated trying to fix this... I feel like I've tried about everything short of reinstalling WP (which I might do soon if I can't get this working).

Most likely that was due to a mismatch in the RS Role Def and WP Role Def for Contributor. See Roles > Options > RS Role Defs and apply sync checkboxes as necessary.

You would also need the Page Contributor role to be unrestricted, and also ensure that the Page Subscriber role has not had any additional capabilities which the Contributor role does not have.
