Firstly apologies if this has been covered before but I have spent an age searching without success.
Second, I need to give a bit of background which may seem irrelevant at first, as there are other issues I am struggling with which have led to this particular issue.
I am trying to set up a multilingual social networking site using BuddyPress and SitePress (WPML). I got the content multilingual ok, but not the core system and buddypress theme (login messages, theme links, etc). I read somewhere that I needed to install the local version of WP for the default language - Catalan (a regional/distinct language in Spain).
Having done so, the first problem was the config.php file was not created properly, and I had to edit the db login manually. More seriously, when I go to install plugins, either automatically or manually, on activation I get a "You do not have permission to access this page" - or rather the Catalan version of this message.
And I am then blocked from the whole Admin/dashboard. If I delete the plugin folder, access returns.
Can anyone shed some light on this, and where, if necessary I can manually change permissions?
