• My site uses WP post categories as if they were sections, thus I have categories for about, porfolio, etc.
I would like my .htaccess file to redirect from say, index.php?cat=8 to jccovey.com/about/. This would seem simple enough using WP’s Permalinks:
“If you like, you may enter a custom prefix for your category URIs here. For example, /taxonomy/categorias would make your category links like http://example.org/taxonomy/categorias/general/. If you leave this blank the default will be used.”
However, what I want is to leave this blank, so that no category/ or archive/ is inserted before my category names.
I’ve tried deleting the category/ from the .htaccess generated by WP’s Permalinks, which would in theory give me exactly what I want, but instead it only produces an Internal Server Error 500.
I’m at a loss on what to do. Please help.

  • Same problem here … interesting that searching in the forums doesn’t produce any results. I assumed that this might be a common question. But well. Help would be appreciated 😉

Could someone please assist me (us) with this problem? Surely someone on this forum knows how to remedy (i.e., hack) this situation. I might have time later to dig through the WP files to come up with something, but a place to start would be great…

Mine works – you can see the site at http://www.pim-journal.com
I have the following entry in my permalinks category.
    first field: /%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%/
custom category prefix (second field): field is empty
