Permalinks Short Product Name

Hi There,

I have long product names which are necessary on my woocoomerce site. So when I send a reference URL permalink to somebody it looks like this:
http://mysite.com/product/veryveryveryverylongname

Is there a way of assigning a short or abreviated name (e.g. SKU) to the URL permalink like this:
http://mysite.com/product/shortname

but still displaying the long name on the website.

Any help, advice, comments would be appreciated.
