This is not a question, but rather info that I was looking for but didn’t find in the forum– leaving it for other who may have the same question. I found all kinds of posts with people having problems, but not any with this more basic question about what is supposed to happen.

I created new subdomain sites in my network: xyzorg.maindomain.com.

I knew when mapping a new domain name (xyzorg.com) to that site, xyzorg.com would take me to the home page, but I wasn’t sure of whether then clicking into pages/posts, the permalinks would automatically appear as xyzorg.maindomain.com/about OR xyzorg.com/about.

Of course, I want them to appear as xyzorg.com/about

I thought I might have to do something like export, delete and import all my content to update the permalinks. But good news! I didn’t! Apparently, domain mapping takes care of this automatically. Happy day! 🙂

I guess I do have a question: any one know if this is true also for things like links in the theme options footer?

I know if I put in a subdomain url (xyzorg.maindomain.com/about) after the domain mapping, it processes longer but does take me to the correct page with xyzorg.com/about eventually.

But will domain mapping go into the database and “overwrite” all the subdomain url links with the new xyzorg.com urls?

This would be handy for example, in developing a new site for a client, I could go ahead and put in all the internal site links while we are in development, and then be confident that after the domain mapping, they will be updated.

Inside the post content itself? No. none of the domain mapping plugins do.

if you’re doing the site in dev and need to link to an eventual mapped url… just type in the mapped url. if it’s not working in dev, it’s usually no biggie.

Thanks, Andrea! I hadn’t thought about putting in the eventual mapped url yet! Great idea!
