I'm new to wordpress and came across this post about permalinks.

So, I decided to clean up my links from the default settings in wordpress.

Then a week later I get a report of 91 broken links.

I tried a redirect plugin called, "Dean's Permalinks Migration 1.0". It asked me to put in the old permalink structure. Not sure what that structure was other than "http://motorcycleinsights.com/?p=123".

I also tried to redirect every time I get a 404 error, but it gives me a url that I can't identify what post it's from.

    Help!

    Thanks!

You permalinks appear to be working properly. For example:

You shouldn't need a plugin to redirect the old permalinks to new permalinks. This has been built into WordPress for quite some time.

I recommend deactivating the plugin, as it's probably the source of the problem.

    Thanks for the reply...

I did add a plugin called the 404 notifier... It keeps om sending me:

404 Report - a file not found error was registered on your site.

    404 URL: http://motorcycleinsights.com/2010/10/28/%3Ca%20href=

You probably get a redirect now to the homepage now.

Not sure where to start on this one and something doesn't seem right?

    I will deactivate...

    Thanks!

I also had this problem before the Dean's Permalinks Migration 1.0 plugin.

Got my 91 broken links report from a 3rd party hostgator site. I also see plenty of 404 http status codes in my aw-stats.
