Permalinks Not Working - 404 error (6 posts)

I posted this topic last week and when I couldn't get it resolved I just deleted all data, database, etc and started over with version 2.5 instead of version 2.5.1, but now, I am doing another install and same thing, no permalink structure working?

Anyone... PLEASE... help. I have tried everything I can think of. I have chmod on the .htaccess file, done a clean install into a new domain, both 2.5 and 2.5.1, same thing. When I change settings to use permalinks it doesn't resolve to the correct address and just gives me a 404 error.

Blog is http://www.joshagerton.com and then you can click on the "hello world" post. Change back to not using permalinks and it works fine.

This particular blog, I have to have the permalinks working. Any suggestions? Hosting is on godaddy using mysql 5.0. Tried both mysql 4.1 and 5.0, same thing. Thanks in advance for any help.

This seems to be the case with all the archive pages also. If you click on the category "uncategorized" it is the same thing, because it isn't rendering the permalinks correctly.

I have been fighting with this for some time, if anyone knows a fix I would REALLY appreciate it.

ok, when I use the custom structure /%post_id%/ it works

but when the /%postname%/ is used it doesn't work? That means my .htaccess file is working?

Hi I tried your site and I saw the same issue, 404 when clicking a link.

I also host with godaddy and can't see anythign there that might do it, I'm not all that technically savvy but it wouldn't be a permissions thing would it? I'd have thought that'd give a 403 or even a WP-404 not a site made one.

Have you put a custom 404 page or set any strange exemptions in your hosting?

no custom 404 yet, just a clean install. Weird, I changed it to the %post_id% then back to the %postname% and now it seems to be working? Don't get it. Almost like the permalinks have to propagate through the system or something before they work?

If anyone else can click on the blog and see if they work from there end that would be great, thanks.

I have Godaddy too and had that problem. After much research I found out it's because after the htaccess is changed, it can take up to an hour for it to take affect. Set your permalinks to what you like and then wait without messing with anything. They'll work just fine after a bit :)
