[resolved] Permalinks, Magic-Quotes, .htaccess changed and still 404 error on everything (3 posts)

I've posted a few threads here about my problem with wordpress v 2.7.
My site was down for a week because of these installation problems.
I've followed all the advice on your threads. Today, I added a link to my page and everything has reverted back to a 404 error on all my posts, pages and comments. Every time I've tried to add information to a page, this problem occurs. This is ridiculous. I really am at a loss. Is anyone else having this problem?

This is what I've done numerous times to keep my site up and running. It keeps reverting back to default settings. WHYYYYYY???

    disable wp-cache
change permalinks, see that it's the issue. It is, working under default, not working under pretty permalinks.
check .htaccess, it’s blank (shouldn’t be)
    backup files before messing around
change .htaccess to what it should be
make sure wp-config is what it should be, clean it up.
backing up the database before messing around.
    install supercache instead of wp-cache
    active supercache
tweak .htaccess to match wp-supercache settings.
verify supercache running (view source, end of file)

Can someone please help me get to the bottom of this? I would really appreciate it. This has been going on since the first of January. I also contacted my host - An Hosting - and had them set the magic_quotes_gpc flag off in the PHP configuration file.

Please tell me what is going on? Can someone take a look at it?

    Regards
    Carrie Marshall

I too am having this issue. Mine only works with static page defined and only that page displays and recent posts, nothing else, it redirects to recent posts.

I have been searching for solutions and am not finding a solution.

thanks if someone can take a look at this issue.
