[resolved] Permalinks Issue (31 posts)

    My website's url.

When you load the homepage, the image doesn't load (and this is occurring site-wide). When I checked the permalink structures, they somehow (without my permission) changed. When I went to save them to my own custom format (/%postname%/), it said it saved, but the blue button remained on /sample-post/.

Why is this happening and how can I get it to revert?

    Blessings,

To change permalinks the .htaccess file must be writeable. 644 is the recommended setting when you want WP to create it.

  3. I just visited your site and the permalinks look good to me.
I'm not sure what you mean about the image not loading on the home page?
I see a blue background with a slider with images....

Look down underneath the slider. Go to the 'about' page for more examples.

Knut - the .htaccess file is 644.

    Any other ideas?

The image URLs are, "https://www.mydomain.com/mydomain.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/mydomain_home_1.jpg" when they should only be, "https://www.mydomain.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/mydomain_home_1.jpg".

Note again - my permalinks will not change after being saved, and my .htaccess' permissions is 644.

Check your uploads path in Settings->Media. It should be blank in most installs.

    It's blank.

Did you move WordPress after it was installed?

Other than adding a SSL, no. The SSL was added a week ago, so I doubt the issue is linked.

So you installed WP initially under https? If not, how did you make the url changes?

I didn't; I changed the URLs manually through WP and the database. However, this issue wasn't present during the change.

When changing the permalinks, WP does NOT like /%postname%/ but it DOES like /%postname%.

    Any reasons why?

PS: whenever I changed it to /%postname%, I still have the error of loading images.

I changed them to /%postname% and it 'saved', however, my links are still ALL broken (maybe minus menus), and my images aren't loading either.

    Thoughts?

Hey Joe i have faced the same problem on my website http://www.visionworldtech.com/automation.. SO i searched a lot and come on conclusion that most of the cache plugins are the main reason of this actually they change the htaccess file So As i am using W3total cache so first i removed it manually and then change the permalink as %postname% and saved it so all done... But remember remove the plugin manually

Hey - thanks for the advice.

I manually deleted my cache plugin, and the error still remains.

    Any other ideas?

I deactivated ALL of my plug-ins, and still have the error.

    Thoughts..?

For some reason, it's inserting my domain name before EVERY url in my links.

    Any ideas?..

For example, when I wrote this in code (extollinghim.com/websites), it sends people to (www.extollinghim.com/extollinghim.com/websites), which nets 404 errors.

The image disappearing issue - when I look at the source it seems funky... like the height and width have somehow been jammed in the same quotes with the images itself.
    /2011/08/Extollinghim_home_1.jpg&h=300&w=450&zc=1"

And it does really seem like the domain name got added to the beginning of your permalink structure. Have you downloaded the htaccess file to see if there's something funky in there that's gumming up the works?

The width and height are apart of the shortcode. I don't know how to read the .htaccess file, so I'm a lost dog when I open the file.

What should I be looking for?

PS: I've read the WP permalinks post - all of it.

    Okay - found out something.

This error takes the page I'm on and inserts that BEFORE the link. For example, I was on "blog1" of my site. When I went to click a link I posted, it looked like, "blog1/www.newurl.com".

What gives? I'm looking at my database now, but everything looks great thus far.

    Blessings,

    See for yourself HERE.

    Have you tried:

    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    - re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

Yup, I've done all three to no avail.

When you load the homepage, the image doesn't load

The large home page image/banner is loading fine for me.

'the image' isn't the slider photos; it's the first half photo underneath.

beyond that, 'the image' was only serving as an example of the epidemic that is effecting my entire site. links and images are broken, and seemingly for no reason.

    /wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Extollinghim_home_1.jpg will not show.

All images seems to be routed through Timthumb at /wp-content/themes/Thunder/framework/plugins/timthumb.php

Although the query string sent to Timthumb seems to be correct, Timthumb says it can find the file.

I guess this is not a permalink issue at all, but a problem with your theme, or just a component in your theme. I suggest trying their support line.

All images seems to be routed through Timthumb

Given the security problems with older versions of timthumb, some hosts are now blocking the script completely.

It isn't Timthub because even my LINKS (like this) have my URL before them.

I also deactivated my theme and used 2010 (or 11, I can't remember) and still had the problem.

In short, I've reuploaded (from a fresh WP install) wp-admin/includes. I deactivated ALL plug ins. I switched themes. I checked permalink structures and they work. I have searched through the database and found no apparent issues.

It may be helpful to add that this issue only happened after I made this sub-domain of my site. The links/pictures work fine there (unless I haven't switched the HTML yet), but not on my main site, which is the more important one.

    Any other ideas?

    Alright - I got a little update.

So, I think it may be a database issue.

I went into my homepage html, and added "http://" before the image, and it loaded fine. I went to my plug-in (search and replace) and thought, "Well, if all it needed was http:// and it worked, then I'll replace "extollinghim.com" with "http://www.extollinghim.com".

I did that, and now, the image isn't loading. It is experiencing the same issue (but now its showing www.http//www.extollinghim.com/whatever/whatever).

So.. I think there is an area in the database that needs to change its link value.

Does anyone know where that is?

    Blessings,
