"If your .htaccess file were writable, we could do this automatically, but it isn’t so these are the mod_rewrite rules you should have in your .htaccess file. Click in the field and press CTRL + a to select all."

I was told I need need to MAKE a .htaccess file and use FTP or some file management program to make the file on your server, copy the code into that file. Save. THEN try to use pretty permalinks

How do you make a .htaccesss file? How do you use a FTP file. Please help. I'm so lost.

Ftp is not a file is program we install in computer to log in on server and transfer files.

If you using cpanel then you should have .htaccess file which is a hidden file. You need allow hidden files to be seen and then add the code in the file.
or change permissions of file so is writable.
