Hi I’m new to this and have had a few issues so just want some advice about permalinks. If I change my permalinks to something more relevant than the current ones which are just the standard setting how will the site know to find the old pages? I’m just worried about losing everything so would like to understand how to and what happens when you change permalinks. I’ve put this in this post as I’m getting the error message for the plug in that I need custom permalinks

What permalink setting are you currently using and which one are you switching to? Depending on your changes, it is possible for the page to no longer be accessible via the old permalink. The same goes for when you change the “slug” of a post– the page will no longer be accessible via the old slug.

In general, the best practice is to choose a permalink structure/slug/etc. and stick to it. This will save you headaches down the road. At the same time, it is possible to redirect old URLs to the new ones in most cases, though certain changes may require a fair bit of manual work.
