   My custom setting for permalinks is "/%year%/%postname%/" - it worked for a while but recently my permalinks are showing as 2011/randomnumberhere, despite the setting still on custom as being year and postname.

   Nothing has been changed, no plug-ins added or upgraded etc.

   I've also noticed since this happened that wp is really slow and often pages dont load first time resulting in refreshing a few times to get more than a blank screen.

   Its not an ISP or server issue as both have been checked out.

   Are these related do you think? How can I get the permalinks to display as intended again?

   Try resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting and renaming your WordPress .htaccess file. If that works, then try reading Using_Permalinks before setting a custom permalink structure again.

   Thank you for your response, although perhaps try leaving the attitude behind before responding to a post again. Of course I read that page before setting the custom permalink and htaccess file. Reading it over again (which i did anyway) won't change the problem. Neither did your suggestion. Thanks again. Have a nice day
