   Hi I want custom Permalinks for category pages. I have put
   %postname%.html for my regular posts pages so they appear like static .html pages. But the category pages still have /category/x/ etc. I want to remove the word category and just have x.html. How can this be done?

   You can change the word category to something else by changing Category Base on the Permalinks page.

   There is a plugin that allows you to remove it altogether, although I've never used it. You can search for it in the plugins directory.
