I’ve searched all over and seen people having similar problems, but I think this is different…

Anyways, when I have permalinks turned on, every link within the blog will return the index page. Turning them off solves the problem, but they are integral to the site, so that’s not an option.

I have tried reinstalling with no luck…problem persists even with new databases. It’s not the theme, as I have now reverted to the default until I fix the problem.

WP is not stored in the site root, it is located and retrieved from /posts. However, it has been moved around a bit during its lifetime if that could make a difference. There is another WP install on the same server at /projects, and it’s suffering the same problem. htaccess is being written correctly when permalinks are updated.

I know mod rewrite is installed on the server, as it works correctly in other parts of the site. If I had to guess, I would say that PATH_INFO is being handed off incorrectly somehow and when it can’t be interpreted, it runs home to the home page.

I have been tearing my hair out for a full day now and the site is pretty much ready to rock apart from this issue. Can anyone in these friendly forums lend a hand?

Problem solved. I thought I would post for interest of anyone with the same problem.

I traced the problem back to the fact that PATH_INFO was not receiving any information from the server…so it was a hosting issue, not a wordpress issue. After realizing this I did some research and quickly found out that Netfirms has subpar permalinks support due to their server setup.

The issue can be hacked around, but the easiest way to fix it is with this plugin.
