Permalinks

Hello,

I am setting up a new site/blog and wondering what optimal permalink setup is best? I have had a site up and running for 8 years (www.driverscdlstaffing.com) but I had someone else handling the backend. They set it up with the post name following the url,
e.g.- http://www.website .com/example. Is this the best or is their a better way? Maybe a custom, I don’t know just looking for input from the pros.
