Permalink Stink

My server is Netfirms and I cannot change my permalinks to be pretty.

Here is my server software…
SERVER_SOFTWARE=Apache/1.3.34 (Unix) mod_fastcgi/2.4.2 mod_perl/1.26

When I change the structure of my permalinks and click on a post the page refreshes with the changed permalink in the address bar but the page refreshes and remains the main blog page…not the individual post. Any help would be appreciated.
