    Hello,

I am in need of dire permalink help.

After years of poor permalink practices, i.e. deleting categories, changing permalink structure without implementing redirects I am trying to do it the correct way.

    Here is my problem.

I have created a whole new taxonomy per Yoast suggestions and I am using the WP-SEO plugin.

About a week ago I checked the box in the WP-SEO plugin to strip out the /category from all category permalinks, but did not redirects, should redirects have been done first?

    My guess is yes.

Today I implemented 140 redirects using (from) category/old category to /new category name example: old category: category/broken-fords (rewrites to) broken-cars, while most rewrites work, the current stripping of the category makes all current rewrites useless.

My best guess is to uncheck the box on the WP-SEO plugin, then add the category to the "to" location and after the redirects are completed then remove category from the path or not, please help?

    all advice accepted.

    thank you

    Mike

You should probably ask the plugin's author on the wp-seo support forum:
