I’m trying to set up a permalink that has the name of the page as the link. i.e. http://www.mywebsite.com/commercial/

But when I go to customize the link... it won’t let it be anything else other than http://www.mywebsite.com/commercial-2/

Why is it putting the “-2” at the end of the link and how can I get it to stop? Even when I go into the page and use the Edit button near the permalink it still tacks on the “-2”.

That usually happens when there's a duplicate permalink. Have you checked to see if you have a duplicate page, post, etc. that is already using "commercial"?

Yes, I have checked to see if there are any other permalinks of the same name and there are not. Also, I read the above link and am still mystified.

Furthermore... it doesn’t do this for every page. Im building a photography website and the only two pages it does this for are pages where I have a lightbox gallery.

After emptying your trash, what do you see when you go to that page in the browser? Maybe that will help track down the issue.

e.g. what do you see at http://www.mywebsite.com/commercial/
