• Hi,

I have a problem. i have assigned a permalink to /blog/%postname%/ which works fine for all blog posts and as expected.

I’m trying to develop normal pages which i have been doing in the pages link once i login to wordpress. This works fine as the permalink pages are only developed once i add a title to those pages or edit the name of the link.

Now, the problem i have with this is that those pages added does NOT allow me to add another folder inside those links e.g lets say i added a new page called “My Website” with the link displayed as “/my-website/” after the domain name. What i’m trying to do is add an extra folder to that link “/new-folder/my-website/” with which i am unable to do.

Any advice on this would be appreciated as i really need to add those extra folders.

    Cheers

  • 1) Why would you arbitrarily include /blog in your permalinks structure?

    2) If you have a parent page called My Website, with a sub-page called My Subpage, the link to the sub-page will be /my-website/my-subpage/

I think that’s what you are saying you are trying to do.

You could create a parent page to create a more detailed permalink structure.

So you could create a page called parent, then have a child and the permalink would be /parent/child

This isn’t 100% ideal, but it’s really the only way I can think to accomplish what you’re talking about.

@ss_minnow……i have included /blog/ because i have both my WordPress address (URL) and Blog address (URL) set to the root folder of my domain name. Its just another way to do it instead of adding the /blog/ to the end of the domain name in the Blog address (URL). I’m doing it like this because i want to create normal pages without the blog info from posts etc on most pages and not on my home page. You’ll prob hammer me for this. 🙂

Thank you both for your help. I never knew what the parent drop down box was used for. You have to have the parent page published before it will be seen in that drop down box. While my pages were not published, i was struggling to see this.

As i’m updating my old website and moved to wordpress. I would prefer my links to be the same as they were before. I’m now able to get the parent link added. I have one more question, There prob isn’t another way……but can i have my links like “/new-folder/my-website/my-website-product/“. If not….then sure you can implement the same code as the parents page and change it a bit….does anyone know where to do this??

How can I add the /blog to the posts permalinks without having it set like /blog/%postname%/?
