I just moved my blog over from Typepad to WordPress. On Typepad my permalinks included the year and month; such as:
    http://www.dancingupsidedown.com/2011/04/for-the-price-of-blue-cheese-and-other-cultured-thoughts/

Are there any compelling reasons for having the date in the permalink address?

When I moved it over a couple of months ago I set it up so that the date was not in the permalink but now I see that the old addresses are throwing 404's if someone uses them.

Is there some code I can use to reroute all of the old permalinks? (About 100 posts)

So what I would like is that automatically
    http://www.dancingupsidedown.com/2011/04/for-the-price-of-blue-cheese-and-other-cultured-thoughts/
    will get routed to:
    http://www.dancingupsidedown.com/for-the-price-of-blue-cheese-and-other-cultured-thoughts/
