Permalink embedded in a newsletter or email?

    I have the plugin working properly on the wordpress site. Now I have some documents that need to be protected from public viewing, but also need to be referenced from a link in an email or newsletter.

    I’m using Justin Tadlock’s Members plugin to lock down posts.

    I’d like to be able to embed a document link in an email and have it so that when the link is clicked the user is taken to a page to log in, then can view the document. Right now when I embed a link (the permalink from the document page) WordPress throws a 404 error…

    I have the document folder outside the webspace.

    Can this be done?
