    The shortlink is used for a specific reason, actually. Unlike the long-link, the shortlink won’t change from adjusting permalink settings. Additionally, if you use a shortlink service plugin such as WP-Bitly or Jetpack’s wp.me or YOURLS or similar, then the plugin will automatically use those new shortlinks. This allows for link-click tracking when using one of these plugins.
