someone posted a similar uestion in the Pro forums today, i answered this:
this is possible, but you’d need to use a combination of plugins and (or) php to get this done. here’s an overview of what you’d need to do:
create a new custom post type called ‘band’ or similar – you’d use a plugin like:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/custom-post-type-ui/
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/pods/
use something like posts 2 posts to connect events or locations to a band post type
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/posts-to-posts/
to display custom information using placeholders, you’ll need to use PHP for this, but at this point we can’t help further than what we have in our tutorial, since you need to use WP methods and posts2posts methods to grab band information:
https://github.com/scribu/wp-posts-to-posts/wiki
http://wp-events-plugin.com/tutorials/create-a-custom-placeholder-for-event-formatting/
Pods also lets you connect events / locations to a band post type by adding relationship fields. Relationship fields in Pods can relate to just about anything in the WordPress world (Other Pods, Post Types, Taxonomies, Users, Comments, Post Formats, etc), or you can define a simple custom list of text to choose from.
Hey Scott (@sc0ttkclark), thx for looking out, that sounds potentially really interesting….
Just to clarify, can you connect present CPTs (i.e. our events) with other CPTs (created with pods or other?). That would make things much easier for users with these situations.
Right, you can relate to Pods-created content types AND any existing post types / taxonomies that have been created by a theme or another plugin.
Also, you can extend any existing post type or taxonomy to add new fields to it, which could be interesting to see your Event post type extended by Pods w/ whatever fields.
I need to eventually reactivate Pods and give it a go sometime 😉
Considering EM uses CPTs, it should be possible to extend i think.
The niggles would be with regards to how we use placeholders to create custom formats (Although you can still use our events/locations the traditional WP way). That would probably need custom coding.
