Performance of shared host versus VDS (4 posts)

Hello, I have a simple question.

Is my wordpress site going to see a significant different in the speed of LOADING into the web browser on a VDS versus a shared host?

I am tired of people mentioning in message boards it has to do with how much traffic they have on their site. Because it seems that it has to do with HOW MUCH TOTAL TRAFFIC all websites hosted on the same box as you are sharing with have. So even if I had one person visiting my site a month, if the rest of the hosts on that shared host had 100,000 visitors it would slow the hell out of my page load times.

I am not interested in anything complicated, only LOAD TIME OF MY WEB SITE WHEN PEOPLE CLICK AND BROWSE AROUND THE WEB SITE.

One more question, has anyone here experienced issues with godaddy page load times? I have read about a lot of issues customers have had with their hosting.

Does godaddy VDS versus shared hosting make a huge performance difference in load times with a LOW traffic web site?

You're right on. You should see load improvement on a VDS (aka VPS almost everywhere else) because your CPU and RAM allotments are assigned specifically to you and not shared across the server. Of course, the price difference is steep, but you get what you pay for.

  3. You also may want to investigate some caching plugins. They can help speed you up and tend to run better on VPS than on Shared.

But yes, VPS/VDS will be faster, out of the box, than Shared, regardless.

Not all VDS are good. I was on a VDS and it was much slower than the reseller account I now have on a shared platform. Quality of the host is more important than the type of server IMO.
