PDF does not display from media library (5 posts)

I have several pdf's uploaded to my media library. When I insert the file url into a page or post and click on it, the browser connects to the url, but the page displayed is blank. I've not had a problem with this in the past. Other media files display with outproblem (jpg for example).
I've tried in Safari and Firefox, same result.

I recently upgraded to WP 3.4.2 but can't say for sure if the problem pre-dated that upgrade.

    Thanks for your help!

    Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    Link to a non-working pdf?

Thanks so much for those suggestions. I deactivated all plugins and verified that the pdf is functioning properly. I did not reset the plugins folder, but here is a bit more information. The WP site I'm working on is in a subdirectory of Al-Lee.com. I intend to swap it out for my top level site once it is working properly. The sites use different themes (both from iThemes) and I deleted all plugins from the top-level site. The new site uses the latest version of WP (3.4.2 I believe), the old top-level site is still at 3.0.1. Both sites experience the same problem: Clicking on the pdf link gets a "connecting to <correct link>" and then displays a blank screen.
The older top-level site has functioned properly for several years with the same theme and plugins (before I deleted them).

    Thanks for your help.

Problem solved. It turns out this is an Adobe browser plugin problem in OSX. Disabling the Adobe PDF reader plugin fixes the problem.

Thank you all for your time and assistance with this.
