Support » Fixing WordPress » PayPal Shopping Cart Not Working!

  • I have Googled this and I have searched the forums but the solutions I am finding are 4 or 5 years old and no longer solve my problem.

I use PayPal to take orders. I generated a shopping cart and put it onto my WP page and it worked (taking me to a shopping cart when I selected a product) for about an hour or so and then it stopped (it now takes me to PayPal’s home page).

WordPress is somehow changing the generated PayPal code I put in and while everything looks good on the page, clicking the “add to cart” button only takes you to PayPal’s home pages.

Has anyone else had this problem? Why would WP change what I put in? Is there a way to make this work?

    Thank you!! 🙂

  • Did you create your own PayPal plugin?

PayPal plugin? I did install one at one point but it didn’t seem to do anything. I haven’t been able to find any clear instructions on how to get the shopping cart to work although I think it’s interesting that the PayPal shopping cart did work for about an hour!

In order to get this to work, you will effectively need to create your own plugin.

Oh my gosh. Do you have to make your own or is there an existing one? I really have no time or any idea of how to create one, even with the “instructions” the link provides.
    I appreciate your help!

You don’t have to. And there are lots of free ecommerce plugins that offer PayPal as one of their supported gateways. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/eshop/ for example.

Oh good, thank you. Could you suggest one or two which might fit my situation? I am reading through the ones I found when I searched PayPal Shopping Cart in plugins but I’m unsure of which one(s) are appropriate.
Thank you again for your help and patience with me. I’ve been struggling with this for a couple months and it’s frustrating when customers email an order and say that the order form isn’t working!

What is it that you are selling?

    They are gaskets and such.
A simple shopping cart is needed, nothing complex.
I actually had two shopping carts on the ordering page since orders coming from Canada required a different shipping cost.

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/eshop/ could handle this for you. It allows you to set up different shipping costs for up to 9 “zones”. You define what country is in which zone. There’s extensive documentation at http://quirm.net/wiki/eshop/ and a dedicated support forum at http://quirm.net/forum/forum.php?id=14

I’m sure there are other free ecommerce plugins that offer similar functionality but, as I run support for eShop, that’s the one I know the best. 🙂
