This works and puts a tick box in my form, however, in the instructions it says to also paste a small shortcode into the mail fileds, but it isnt quite clear as to which field it should be in. does it go in the subjuct filed or the email address filed....which?

I think you're talking about "Add an email field named your-email" when talking about setting up the form. Just setup your form like the screenshot here and you should be good to go. :)

No, there are 2 places that say copy and paste code, 1 says to paste into the form which I have done ok
The second says to copy and paste a smaller piece of code into the mail fields below the form (not shown on the screenshot), I just want to know which of the fields I put the code into, is it the subject filed?

I have tested this plugin on the site but it does not seem to add the subscriber to the database, does this have to be done manually?

    Hey Chris,

Nope - sorry for the confusion. You don't have to add anything to the mail fields. I actually just got a new computer so I set everything up from scratch and it works without doing anything to the mail fields.

The only setup you have to do is the setup in the screenshots.

    1. Create a MailPoet Signup field named mailpoetsignup
    2. When you're creating the MailPoet Signup field you can select any number of lists you want the user to be assigned to
    3. Add the generated shortcode to your form with your other fields (first name, last name, etc). It should look something like this [mailpoetsignup mailpoetsignup mailpoet_list_1 default:on]

    I hope that helps! :)

BTW - I now have some plans to make the instructions a bit clearer: https://github.com/BFTrick/mailpoet-contact-form-7/issues/13
