I have a site at http://www.itsmylifescript.net. It is installed in a subdirectory of http://www.itsmylifescript.com, which has its own site.

I want to password protect pages on my http://www.itsmylifescript.net site, but when I go to a password protected page and type in the password, it doesn't do anything, just asks for the password again. I am not mistyping the password. Caps lock is not on.

Password protection works on pages in http://www.itsmylifescript.com, but not in http://www.itsmylifescript.net.

One other piece of information: the permalinks settings page thinks that the .htaccess file is not writable, but it is.

Password protection works just fine on my sub-directory installs. Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
