I've got a small blog and want to ensure that the SQL database is backed up nightly, just in case. I've installed MySQLDumper, which I've used on numerous sites in the past, and it's installed and operating fine. However I want to lock down the access to the MySQLDumper directory and usually I'd complete the inbuilt form in MySQLDumper to create a .htaccess file with corresponding .htpasswd file but when I do WordPress comes back with a 404 page when I then try to access the MySQLDumper directory.
I've tried creating the .htaccess file via cPanel and even manually but I'm still running into the same 404 problem. As soon as I remove the .htaccess file the 404 problem goes away, but then MySQLDumper is left wide open and causing a security risk.
I've tested the problem with other directories and all produce the same 404 error once .htaccess is setup within them to restrict access. :(
Can anyone help me before I start to cry? lol
Thanks for any help or info.
