• My password protected pages keep asking for the password even though I enter it correctly. I am using multisite and it is a sub blog. I am also using domain mapping. I think this has something to do with it as the url in the admin section points to the main domain, but the domain mapped url is where I am entering the password. I have deactivated all plugins and reactivated them to no avail. Does anyone have any advice on this? Any would be appreciated. Thanks!

So here is the real issue that I have just discovered. The password protected pages validate the password through the wp-login.php page. I can’t login through that url because of the way that the multisite works. It could be that it was set up incorrectly, but I am not sure. I didn’t set up the blogs. So I’m wondering if there is a fix for being able to login under the mapped domain name. Please let me know if anyone has any experience with this.

    Example:
    mydomain.com/my-site/wp-admin

I can log into here successfully.

mapped domain which is mapped to mydomain.com/my-site/:
    newdomain.com/wp-admin

I can not log into the second example. It just keeps redirecting me back to the password prompt page.

This is resolved and for anyone who has this issue, here is what I did to resolve it:
under each site you have set up, go in and under the setting tab, there is a setting called home page. Change that to you mapped domain and it will work just fine.

I have exactly the same pb with password protected pages that keep asking for the password even though I enter it correctly…
    In General Settings I have:
    WordPress Address (URL) : http://88.191.247.153/wordpress
    Site Address (URL): http://www.collectifroosevelt38.fr
I don’t understand how you have resolved the problem
    Thanks in advance

I have the same Login issue with one newly site I’m developing.
I spoke with the hosting company and with their best techs and the only resolve was to re-install wp. It worked but the same issues are back.
I tried all major browsers (Chrome, Explorer, Safari, Firefox) and Explorer works maybe because I initiated the wp site and saved the password.
My different approach was to go thru Chrome to initiate things and they were fine initially, but Explorer works and the others do not.
Chrome and the others keeps returning to the enter password.
When entering the wrong password I get an error message, but put the correct password and it returns requesting the password.
Not sure if it matters, but GoDaddy is the hosting company for this site.
My guess is that its a WP programming call issue.
Please advise and thanks in advance

    Update…
Safari and Explorer are the only two the continue onto the dashboard at this point.
Cache and history was cleaned from the beginning of time.

I don’t think it depends on the browser used.
In fact I have three wordpress working on three different computers:
I have the problem only on one of them.
In the first it’s OK it’s my local computer
    In General Settings I have:
    WordPress Address (URL) :http://localhost:8888
    Site Address (URL): http://localhost:8888
the password protected pages run well I can access the page only if I enter the correct password
On the second a remote computer it’s also OK:
    In General Settings I have:
    WordPress Address (URL) :http://88.191.247.153/roosevelt38
    Site Address (URL): http://88.191.247.153/roosevelt38

On the third, password protected pages keep asking for the password even though I enter it correctly
    In general Settings I have:
    WordPress Address (URL) : http://88.191.247.153/wordpress
    Site Address (URL): http://www.collectifroosevelt38.fr

It seems that when the Site Adress is the domain name of the site the problem arise.
    I don’t understand why.
If I try to set Site Address (URL): http://88.191.247.153/wordpress
When I enter a password (the correct or not) I am redirected on the logging page of WordPress.
As I don’t know in which php file the control for the protected pages is made I cannot understand the problem….

    Hello,
After writing my last post I noticed that the only try that I haven’t made is to set the domain name in both Adress:
    WordPress Address (URL) : http://www.collectifroosevelt38.fr
    Site Address (URL): http://www.collectifroosevelt38.fr

With this, it’s OK, the problem is fixed!!
    I don’t understand why but….

WordPress password issues are back at it again.
Sometimes it’s a hit or miss.
I just tried to login on my mobile and it worked. Came back to Chrome and now it worked.Safari now yes… Firefox no… Explorer yes

Frustrating and consuming too much time.

    WP/Host acct…please fix
