[resolved] Password Protect Download (4 posts)

Hello - I was wondering if anyone knew how to "password protect" a downloadable file without making the user register for the site.

    For Example:
I would like to have a downloadable link to a .zip folder that could be seen by any user that visits my site. Then when the user clicks on the download, a "lightbox/shadowbox" would appear prompting them for a password. If they enter the password correctly the download would begin and if not it would show an error message and request the correct password.
Note: I just want to create one generic password for everyone so that I can give it to select people that request it.

I am more of a designer than a developer so my programming knowledge in this area is not quite par, but i think with some help I can do this...

    Also,
I know it would probably be easier hide the download and make users register to see it, but that concept really doesn't go with what I am trying to accomplish by having the downloadable .zip file in the first place.

    Thank you!
    -Adam

    Here's what you could do:

    1. Create a page and select "Status: Password Protected" to the top left.
    2. Download the Page links to plugin, and set the page to redirect to the url your download is stored at.
    3. When you want to add your download link, just link to the page you created.
