   Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '.' in ...website.com/wp-includes/user.php on line 492

   Hi all,

   I am new to wordpress (even if I have just installed it three times to try to get it to work...). I've tried to look for a post about this but cannot find one.

   This parse error is the error that is coming up when I try to install wordpress after uploading it. It is in the root folder of the site. In a normal screen the page just comes up as completely blank, the support team from my web host gave me the details of the error.

   (in config file, if 'localhost' is used the error says it is unable to connect to database. when it is specified as the host mysql details the screen is completely blank.)

   Is this a known issue? What is the fix?

   Have you checked your mysql details with your hosting provider?

   Yep. I've been in correspondence with them and they went through and checked that.

   Have you tried re-uploading the wp-includes folder from a fresh download of WordPress?
