Tried to install WordPress for the first time. Have spent a few hours now on that "5 minute install" with no luck so far.

I created the database, (successfully according to my hosting control panel), and added a user (apparently successfully). Made the necessary changes in the config.php file and uploaded all to a blog directory on my website. Tried to go to http://mywebsite.com/blogdirectory/wp-admin/install.php and get the follwoing error:

    "
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /hsphere/local/home/********/*******.com/blog/wp-config.php on line 47

Any ideas at all wtf I'm doing wrong here??

Try setting up your wp-config.php file again.

I've done it twice. ANy suggestions on what exactly I might need to look for in the file again?

Sorry but no. The error message is too generic. I can only guess that you might be inadvertently something when you add your database connection details.

this fella and i are each now advised to do the same thing over, and expect a different result.

The root causes may be very different.

Hmm, I'll try going back to the original wp-config file, and make the changges AGAIN and re-upload. But I've done it twice now and gotten same error message. Very frustrating!
