Paginating databse records NOT in $wpdb

    I want to allow users to enter selection criteria for a database of information that is NOT the WP database. For example let’s say a database of books in a catalogue.
    I know what I need to do for the form part but I’m looking for a plugin or template that would handle the pagination of the results. There are lots of pagination plugins but they all seem to address paginating posts or other $wpdb records.
    Is there anything out there or do I need to create a plugin or template?
