LionbunnyAll my permanent page links would redirect back to the homepage and my fix was definitely an overlooked but easy mistake.
so before going into .htaccess, thinking it's an internal coding problem and messing with your rewrite check your permalink page settings:
my permalinks were set to /index.php/%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%/
meaning everything was going to http://www.website.com/index.php/yourpermalink
INSTEAD OF
http://www.website.com/yourpermalink
I felt pretty silly but so often simple things like this get overlooked!
Make sure your permalinks are set to go where they're supposed to!
