Late last night I began experiencing some major issues with pages loading. While the administrative interface and dashboards all load without a hitch my post, index, category and tag pages all stall after loading the header.
As far as I can tell it's not related to the server (because the administrative portion of WordPress is loading fine.) I've removed almost all the javascript and removed most of the unnecessary plugins with no result.
Can anyone provide some extra troubleshooting tips?
Here's your answer directly from your page:
WordPress database error: [Lost connection to MySQL server during query]
WordPress database error: [MySQL server has gone away]
those just started showing up ...
I talked to my hosting company and they're telling me nothing is wrong with the Database server and that I need to "Optimize my Connections..."
Any thoughts?
Not too sure there is anything you can do to optimize a connection unless of course you can deactivate a plugin that is causing a problem or fix some customized code you introduced.
You could read "optimize my connection" as "maybe I need another host" ;)
That "MySQL server has gone away" looks a lot like an error message that is related to my hosting provider. At this point I have almost no plugins installed but even running an un-customized version of the default theme I'm still hitting this wall.
I'm using GoDaddy and they appear to suddenly be a poor choice for WordPress users. Can anyone suggest a better choice (in case I need to find a new host...)
Thanks MichaelH!
I'm working with the host now to figure it out and I'll update if any changes can be made - otherwise I'll be heading to that link.
Thanks again.
I just got off the phone with GoDaddy who told me "WordPress is not the ideal solution for most users."
Funny - for two years it ran without a problem and suddenly (without an updgrade, any new plugins or any significant changes) it's "not ideal."
I guess it's time to hunt for a new host afterall... thanks for your help folks.
Curious as they offer WordPress via the Hosting Metropolis. I'd say the tech that said that may not be 'informed'.
Here's some hosting sites managed by volunteer contributers to the WordPress cause:

What's even more curious is that five minutes after the phone call it's loading just fine. I'll be calling and writing the number and email they gave me for filing complaints and will be looking into other avenues for hosting ASAP.
