[resolved] Pages listed by categories (3 posts)

    Greetings,

I know that in WordPress that at the moment page "pages" are not able to be categorized. Perhaps we will have that option in the future. I'm not exactly sure why that wasn't ever an option to begin with.

What I am getting at is this: As I was "managing my links" I noticed my "uncategorized" category had a count of ten next to it. None of my posts were set to that category, they are all set to categories that I created, so in truth my "uncategorized" category should read as having a zero count.

Upon further investigation and trial and error I realized that page "pages" (e.g. when you write a page) were actually responsible for the "uncategorized" count I saw. In other words, I have a count of ten now, but if I delete a page it drops to nine. So this tells me that even though we can't actually categorize pages we make they are (for lack of better wording) mistakenly set to this category.

Okay so that explains it partially. When you create a page it is considered "uncategorized"; but what gets me is that I actually have fourteen created pages but only ten appear to be accounted for. Why didn't the other four pages also get added to the count or rather why is the "uncatgorized" category showing a count for every page you make if we aren't supposed to be able to categorize pages anyhow?'

It seems like we are only one step away from being able to categorize pages since they already "fall" into the "uncategorized" category.

I was just curious and I hope this thread post didn't sound confusing when you read it.

    Regards,

The pages are being counted in the category count in error and that has been reported: http://trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2212

The developers are discussing changes to the database regards pages vs. posts but it's not clear how categorization of pages will be affected: See:

    Thanks Michael.

I'll just go ahead and set this as RESOLVED then.
