Pages background OK on IE but transparent on Firefox? (6 posts)

    Okay- I just set up a WP site for my little brother. I installed the 'Falling Dreams' theme and tweaked it a little- I tried creating a new page template (that will display static pages without the sidebar), BUT I'm having a problem with IE versus Firefox. The static pages look fine in IE, but in Firefox the page background is transparent so the tiled.jpg shows through. Obviously I removed/added something I shouldn't have in the new template- however I have NO idea what that should be.

    The new template looks like so:
    <?php
    /*
    Template Name: Basic_Page
    */
    get_header();
    ?>
    <?php if (have_posts()) : while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?>
    <div class="post">
    <h3 class="storytitle" id="post-<?php the_ID(); ?>"><a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" rel="bookmark" title="<?php the_title(); ?>">
    <?php the_title(); ?>
    </a></h3>
    <div class="basiccontent">
    <?php the_content(__('(more...)')); ?>
    </div>
    </div>
    <?php endwhile; else: ?>
    <p>
    <?php _e('Sorry, no posts matched your criteria.'); ?>
    </p>
    <?php endif; ?>
    <div id="footer">
    Powered by <a href="http://wordpress.org">WordPress</a> with
    Falling Dreams Theme design by <a href="http://teo.esuper.ro">Razvan Teodorescu</a>.
    <!-- <?php echo $wpdb->
    num_queries; ?> queries.
    <?php timer_stop(1); ?>
    seconds. --> </div>
    <?php do_action('wp_footer'); ?>

    I added 'basiccontent' to the css- copying the 'content' code and just tweaking the width- could that be the issue?

    Here's the 'basiccontent' css excerpt:
    #basiccontent {
    color: #666666;
    float: left;
    height: auto;
    margin: 0px;
    padding-bottom: 10px;
    padding-left: 10px;
    padding-right: 0px;
    padding-top: 0px;
    text-align: justify;
    width: 430px;
    }

    Any ideas?

    Hi gothmog. Can you provide a link?

    If you made a new Page template, go to one of your Pages and validate the HTML (might as well do the CSS too) -- do that first, it will tell you if there's problems with the template itself.

    To style your "basiccontent" section

    <div class="basiccontent">

    you want to use the class selector

    .basiccontent{ ... }

    not the ID selector (#basiccontent), but that won't explain the IE/Firefox rendering differences.

    Sorry- forgot the link:

    I'm not sure how to validate the html, I confess. I haven't done that before.

    You may have left off the closing tag for a DIV.

    hmm- that could very well be, but I don't see it.
    I've got 3 div tags on my template:
    <div class="post">
    <div class="basiccontent">
    <div id="footer">

    And 3 corrosponding closing div tags:
    2 underneath <?php the_content(__('(more...)')); ?>
    </div>
    </div>

    and the last on this line:
    seconds. --> </div>
    That should be all right, shouldn't it?
    I gotta say all I'm getting out of the validator is thoroughly confused. :(

    <div id="rap"> (in header template, probably) isn't closed.

    Help with the validator talk:
