A link would help so we can see what is occuring else all we can do is make guesses.

Anything in the webserver's error logs?

I have done more looking and I now believe it is a Mod_Rewrite problem. Which I don't know how to fix!

GREAT NEWS... I found my problem.

Open /etc/httpd/httpd.conf and look for 'AllowOverride None' OR 'AllowOverride All' (without the single quotes). This should be set to AllowOverride All. Mine wasn't! Once you have AllowOverride All in the httpd.conf remember to restart the httpd session.

Hope I was clear enough and that was your problem too!

Unless you are hosting yourself on your own machine... you will not find it.

That's a completely wrong advice for WP users hosted by host companies.
What you need is to read the Codex:

If you are hosting yourself, you'll need to install the mod_rewrite module, then set up your .htaccess as WordPress tells you to (when you set up your Permalink structure).

If you are hosted somewhere else, you'll have to get in contact with your Tech Support people, and have them install the mod_rewrite module.
