• When I have permalinks activated, clicked Older Entries does not work as any /page/2/ or /page/3/ etc etc links return 404 Page Not Found errors.

    I tried:
    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/253856?replies=2

It didnt work,my blog is in the root, and doing the fix in there totally destroys it.

For the record, the site is http://www.streethop.com Click on News and go to Older Entries. It works on the main page but not any of the category pages.

    Running 2.8

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I checked the default theme… Same problem. I deactivated all plugins…. Same problem.

    it works fine through http://www.streethop.com/category/news/page/3/

In the permalinks area, you need to put in a word inbetween the category name and the homepage, if you don’t put a word there it just uses the wordpress default which is category. It’s been like this forever.

But then why do the auto generated links point to http://www.streethop.com/news/page/3/ and not http://www.streethop.com/category/news/page/3/ ? How do I fix that?

    Hi,

had the same problem with my template. Solved it with this plugin and then changed the permalink of the page “news” from “http://www.site.com/news” to “http://www.site.com/category/news/page/1”

    Hope that solves it

^^ I have that plugin but doing what you did is not an option.

So I am still yet to fix this.

Seriously why are basic functions in wordpress totally broken like this?

How can I updated the “Previous Page” or “Next Page” links to include ….com/catagory/news/page/2/ instead of just being ….com/news/page/2/ and not working?

As I asked in your other thread: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/281042?replies=10

What are your permalink settings? Are you using some kind of custom permalink string? Are you using any permalink modifying plugins?

The short answer is that a default installation would not do what it seems to be doing for you. You have to have done something unusual to make it generate those links without “category” in them and such. It can’t do that by default.

    (@caesarg)

    Well, it is.

As I replied to you in the other thread, even with all plugins off and with all default settings this still happens, both problems.

The only permalink string I am using is /%category%/%postname%/

^^ I have that plugin but doing what you did is not an option.

    How so?

    Otto42,

A lot of people have been having this problem. I hoped the latest update would solve it. I have been receiving 404 errors from my links for over a month now – all of my links, including comments, post pages, page 2, etc. I have written about it in this forum and have monitored other discussions. No solutions have been offered that I have seen. I am not using a custom permalink string.

Do a search for 404 and links and you’ll find some of the threads about this problem.

fromtheabbey: Yes, I get that, but we need to find the common denominator. What is special about your setup?

See, I can grab a copy of XAMPP (Apache + PHP + mySQL, all in one, for Windows), set up WordPress on it, and it works. All default settings. Permalinks, everything. You can do the same on any Windows machine.

So, we need to figure out what is it about your particular configuration that is causing this to happen? Because with a normal, default, secure configuration, it doesn’t happen.

With all due respect, my server is a normal unix default secure configuration. It is a dedicated server I pay $175 for a month. So the server is not the problem, something the software is doing is.

With all due respect, I do know what I’m talking about. I can set up a Linux box in a matter of half an hour, secure it, install WP off of SVN, and it works without fail. I even run my laptop on Fedora. So, something must be off somewhere.

Please, inform me what is a “standard” unix install? There are a lot of different versions out there with different configurations and it seems that wordpress doesnt like them all. But you cant suggest that is the servers fault. WordPress should be designed to work on a wide range of servers.

Regardless, let’s work out together, for my benefit and the benefit of others, what exactly the solution is….

But you cant suggest that is the servers fault. WordPress should be designed to work on a wide range of servers.

uh, it is. that you are having trouble doesnt suggest differently.

how many posts do you have in the audio category?
