Page template works on one site, doesn’t work on another site

    I have the exact same theme, same page template, same version of WP… in use on two different sites.

    On site #1 the page template generates the latest blog posts, on site #2 the page template does not. I’m using query_posts to get the latest X posts. The only difference I can see is that site #2 is hosted on Dreamhost.

    I’ve looked in every possible nook and cranny, I’ve deleted the page, re-created the page, made a whole new page with the template, removed the template, re-assigned the template, FTP’d the template, pasted the template code into the wp-admin theme editor —nothing gets it to work on site #2.

    Has anyone had this problem or have any ideas as to what might be the cause?

    I’ve determined that it was, indeed, an issue with Dreamhost and their screwy way of setting up FTP permissions: 1 user per domain (for each FTP user a unique directory is created, which leads to multiple versions of directories and files if you change the FTP user because only one FTP user is allowed per domain).

    additional info: apparently if you change the FTP user for a domain in Dreamhost, even if you check the ‘copy all files to new user directory’ box, there seems to be some kind of bleed over or caching effect related to the FTP user directories. Even though I changed the FTP user several hours ago and it wasn’t a problem with the general theme templates (and verified that it’s not a browser cache issue), when making changes to the page template they just would not show up. I was seeing the old version on the frontend even though wp-admin Theme Editor was showing the new version of code. Weird hunh?

    For anyone else dealing with page template issues and Dreamhost, what I did was to rename the page template (filename) and change the Template Name in the page template file. Finally the system was willing to acknowledge the alterations to the page template.
