Page-specific Menus (6 posts)

I am developing a site for a client. They are a group of radiologists.

They have several radiologists on staff and several "specialties".

Each Radiologist has their own Biography page. Each specialty has its own page. Every Radiologist has their own group of specialties.

    MY ISSUE (for example).

Dr. John Doe specializes in Cardiovascular Imaging, Oncologic Imaging, and Advanced Body Imaging. I need a menu that contains a link to each of those three pages, and I need it to be ONLY on Dr. John Doe's page. All 27 Radiologists have their own specific specialities, so creating a custom template would be really inefficient.

    Does anyone have any advice?

Use Pages for each Doc. Use Custom Fields as the specialties and use a plugin such as http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/custom-field-taxonomies/ to allow you to link to a specialities page.

    or

Use Pages with 'specilizes' custom taxonomy. The coming version 3.0 makes custom taxonomies very easy to deal with.

    or

Use Pages with tags for the specializes. The Simple Tagging plugin allows tagging of Pages.

That has gotten me almost there. I'm using a plugin to create/manage taxonomies.

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/custom-taxonomies/
(I needed these to be on Pages, not Posts).

However, I wonder if there is a way to click the specialty (e.g. Oncologic Imaging) and the link take you to a specific Static Page, rather than a list of the Doctors who specialize in Oncologic Imaging.

I would like to do something similar on my pages. Basically adding a page-specific quicklinks menu to the sidebar. Pikemurdy, Were you able to find a solution to your issue?

    Thanks in advance.

I too am attempting to do the same thing. My client does not want the entire site's navigation displayed on the sidebar widget since there is a top level horizontal navigation that displays this.

A solution or guide to the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

I just found a plug-in that provides the functionality that I was looking for.

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/simple-section-navigation/

    Hope this helps.
