[resolved] Page number chamges on new posts (4 posts)

The post associated with a page number changes each time I create a new post. Can this be changed so a page number is permanently linked to a specific post?

For example, this link is associated with different posts as I add posts:

    http://www.virdriver.com/prd/2009/08/page/2/

It is a problem because Google indexed this page based on one post, but it no longer points to that post.

    I appreciate any thoughts.

P.S. I have permalinks set to use /%category%/%postname%/ Custom Structure. Google seems to ignore this even though all the internal site links use this structure.

For example, this link is associated with different posts as I add posts:

That's because it's a page containing a full list of every post made during August 2009. As you add new posts, everything shifts down and what's listed on page 2 of the archive will also change.

Every post had a unique permanent link, so I think you're seeing problems where none exist.

I don't think it is a page listing of all posts. My example link points to a specific post. I think the behavior is it numbers the posts from latest to oldest, so adding new posts shifts everything down. We might be saying the same thing, just from different angles.

It is reasonable behavior and I don't consider it a bug, but it is a problem for me. It is causing my Google search results to point to the wrong post. I would prefer Google used my permalink format, but it is presenting the page numbering scheme in search results. If you Google, "Salesforce.com Certification Exam Notes Hayata Takeshita" you will see that the Google description is different than the post it point to.

Is there a way to change this behavior so that it numbers oldest to latest? This should keep Google and my blogs in synch.

I figured out that the behavior can be modified by creating a plugin that hooks into the query building procedure.
