• I was in the middle of installing a new theme on a very basic blog style wordpress. Literally nothing fancy, just installing a basic theme. The screen went white. When I go to the admin panel or type in the website address it says:

The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.ladivinacaricatura.com/wp-admin/. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
    Here are some suggestions:
    Reload this webpage later.
HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

On Safari it is only white. I used Filezilla to rename every single plug-in and that did not work. It has been 2 days.

  • Try resetting the themes folder via ftp too.

Using ftp rename the theme you installed in wp-content/theme folder so default theme opens

Hi, thank you so much for responding. Ok, I just realized that I didn’t actually change the plugins. I think that might be the problem: everytime I type in host, username, password and port into filezilla it says error could not connect to server.

I’m not changing anything. Do you know how to make filezilla work?

the ftp I’m using isn’t connecting to the server. I’m typing in the wordpress website, username and password and port 21. Is this information correct in order to use filezilla?

I tried multiple ftp’s and none of them are working. I know which plugins and themes to change once I’m in but the ftp is not working.

Unless your hosts have ftp set to a different port, yes. The default is 21.

I would contact them about ftp access, there’s nothing we can do from here.
