Page editor adds tag on newline in Text tab (9 posts)

I'm miffed at this, but I added a newline to separate some <img> tags from each other for easier reading, but then after I update it puts
tags in the HTML, screwing up the layout. I see no way of preventing this. These images are supposed to be side-by-side (I use float: left already) on two rows without any br tags in between.

Are you using the text editor?

Yes, the Text tab in the Page editor. That's what I mentioned in the title.

What theme are you using? Link to the site? Have you tried this in twentytwelve to see if it persists?

It's a custom theme. What does that have to do with the Text editor? The theme doesn't add tags in the middle of Page content, it just includes the content like every other WordPress theme.

Not all themes use the_content() correctly - if at all. Did you try the Twenty Twelve theme?

The custom theme is based on the Twenty Eleven theme. We can't just change to the Twenty Twelve theme, it will break the whole site.

The function it uses is get_template_part('content', 'page')

We can't just change to the Twenty Twelve theme

Yes you can. There is no magic bullet in these situations. This is just the start of basic troubleshooting and is a process of elimination deliberately designed to locate the root cause as quickly as possible by first removing the most obvious and common culprits via a series of (often) temporary steps.

Do you want to locate and, hopefully, fix the problem on your site? If "yes", then please help us to help you and carry out the changes that we suggest.

Um, no, we can't. This site is not set up like an ordinary WordPress site or theme, it is a heavily customized theme with a heavily customized plugin on a multisite that also has been customized internally. I only inherited this project and doing something like this could screw it up and is not worth trying. I'm familiar with basic troubleshooting steps.

All I was asking is if someone else knew why this would happen and their experiences with it. Switching themes is not feasible, sorry, no matter what you think.

I'm done following this issue. I'll troubleshoot it myself.
