• Hi. I’m trying to help my client figure out why they’re unable to access the WordPress sections of a site I recently created for them. They’re able to access the non-WordPress pages fine.

Here is the link to the main site which is not WordPress and works fine: hmnads.com

The problem occurs for them when they click through to either Press or Careers from the main nav and get the error message “This page cannot be displayed” when trying to access either page.

Everything works fine from my end on Mac, PC, and handhelds both on and off wifi. Spoke w the web host provider and all was fine on their end as well.

I’m completely stumped. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.

  • Is it this section that your clients have problems with?
    http://hmnads.com/press/

I find it and the links therein working fine.

Yes, Krishna. That section as well as http://hmnads.com/careers/. Both are WordPress based. The rest of the site is not.

Yeah, I find both working fine. You may ask your client to clear caches and cookies and try again, or use another machine with other browsers too.

i’ll ask my client to do that. Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi again. My client’s IT person insists that the reason why they can not access the two WordPress subsites I created for them: http://www.hmnads.com/press and http://www.hmnads.com/careers when in their office lies with the way I’ve written the absolute URLs. Here’s an excerpt from their email:

To prove my point, try accessing http://www.hmnads.com/careers from outside the office and you will see it works but the address bar in your browser will now read hmnads.com/careers, without the www. That’s the problem.

Try it with another page, like http://www.hmnads.com/healthcare.htm, and you will notice it doesn’t remove the www in the address bar.

That’s why you can access the healthcare page from the office but not careers.

Wherever I wrote absolute URLs, I included the www. Regardless, I’m not sure why this would cause the problem they’re having accessing the subsites from their office when there’s a C record set up at the web host to resolve whether you use www or not.

Any ideas what the problem might be? Do I need to write something for the .htaccess file? Or is there something I can suggest they check internally?

Any suggestions or thoughts would be most welcome. Thanks.

    What about this page?
    http://hmnads.com/contact.htm
It does not show www even if you add that to the URL. Was that also created by you using WordPress?

Yes, it was created by me. But it’s not in WordPress. And they’re able to access all the non-WordPress portions of the site just fine which is basically everything except for what in the /careers/ and /press/ subdirectories.

Is what you’re pointing to something I screwed up?

Yes, it was created by me. But it’s not in WordPress.

That means the same problem (if it’s a problem) occurs in WordPress and non-WordPress portions of the site. You need to set the domain with or without www at the root as well as at the folder where you have installed WordPress. I don’t know what all settings you made at the root as well as at the WP install. So, I cannot say what all changes you have to make. You need to locate where all you made changes and then make corrections.
